The 10 Best Chocolatiers in the World for Chocolate Lovers – Spreading Happiness

Love chocolate? Yep, me, too. Imagine having to choose the top ten best chocolate makers in the world. The National Geographic recently featured a survey of the top ten best chocolatiers. When I came across this article, I knew I had to share it with you. It’s like Willy Wonka for adults.

127-01-014So, what’s your favorite? Vosges Haut-Chocolat, Teuscher, or Valrhona? Or maybe you’re a fan of Ghiradelli from San Francisco or Godiva.

One thing is for sure, these founders are probably among the best-loved entrepreneurs in the world.

I’ve been lucky enough to have tasted eight of out the top ten, so I’ve added Norman Love Confections and Puccini Bomboni to my list. What’s a few more workouts anyway?

To me, chocolate is an important art form, and ranks right up there with perfume and wine on my list of rich indulgences. And everyone knows how passionate I am about perfume…about three books worth of passion, not to mention an enormous database. Ah, but I digress…

Artisan Chocolate Makers

If you’re more interested in artisan chocolates, visit Chocolate.com, one of my favorite sites on the ‘net. It’s chock-full of excellent boutique chocolate makers. They make it easy to sample several at once.

What’s one of my all time favorites? Chuao Chocolatier, which has its headquarters in Carlsbad, California. Chuao was recently voted best chocolate in the U.S. for Food & Wine magazine.

  3. Unfortunately Scharffen Berger is no longer an independent in Berkeley. It’s part of Hershey and manufactured elsewhere. When it was in Berkeley, there was nothing like the cafe with its Scharffen Berger chocolate sandwich–chocolate, butter and bread. The three food groups. I would add Taza Chocolate (Boston) to the list and Recchiuti (San Francisco) and Poco Dolci (SF). Oh, so many to choose from. I also love EH Chocolatier (Boston)… and all the others on your list 🙂

  4. My first vote for all time best chocolate goes to WITTAMER CAFE in Bruxelles. I don’t think you can even get Wittamer chocolate in the U.S. The subtle flavors and rich dairy creamy content make each chocolate a whole dessert. Teuscher is second with similar Euopean not too sweet, fancy-rich chocolate creations. Their decorations like their chocolate make an ordinary day a memorable event.

  6. I have to add Boehms in Issaquah, Washington, to the list. Part candy factory, part museum and park, the Viennese-style chocolates are gorgeous and appeal to sight, smell, and above all, taste. I’m drooling just thinking about them!

  7. If you’re ever in London, be sure to visit William Curley for some fabulous chocolate with some Asian fusion flavours – it’s delicious and one of my favourites here in London!
